WEEK 20!!!

Well here it is!  Final week before the half marathon. :)  i am so excited and ready :) 
Lots to do this week.  lots to do.  I have my room, flight, oh, my bib number and i am in corral 30 :(  oh well.  

i will post my bib number later. 

Monday:  rest
Tuesday:  cross training  30 min on the eliptical, 20 min on the bike yuk!  and a good arm/shoulder workout.  :)  feel good
Wed.....need to run 3 .... 
                 So today is wed.  i am miserable. :(  I ran 30 min on the tm.  3 miles done.  feeling down though.  dh got a call from his dr. not good. have to go in today to see what is up.  my union has put in a gr. ....  this sucks ....  i have to get ahold of the girls.

Week 19

Monday 11/21/11  45 min weight training.  felt good. :)  legs were pretty sore at night time.  

Tuesday 11/22/11  3 miles at 29:58  :)  awsome feeling to get my three in under ten.  after today and sunday I am more confident i will beat the time i put down for the half.  i am so excited...  time is ticking away !!
Well, I was reading the blog posts of the past and realized at week 8 i had my colonoscopy and my body has not been right since!  you would think by now i would be fine!   and on week 9 i was seen by my doctor for what i thought was a sinus infection, and I am still somewhat sick.  I didn't think it had been ten weeks.  well, i am still struggling with whatever it is.  Time to make another doctor appointment to find out what my symptoms are!

Week 18!!

Monday November 14th  2 miles on the TM  with a short ab workout.  legs are pretty achy ...  oh, 20 mins on the TM

Tuesday November 15th 30 min workout at PF....with some stretching and extra legs... :)

Wed.  Five miles on the TM 52:12 min..continued on the tm for the full 60 min.  15 min of stretch/abs

thursday...  felt horrible no workout in the am...  3 miles on tm at night. 
friday... quick wo on the machines....

Sunday:  8.04 miles at 1:22  felt good.  no knee brace, i forgot them, no water ....  and i did not eat breakfast.  i felt great!  surpise.  iced the knees right after felt fine.  :) 

so much for running at night.  :(  my schedule can only handle running in the early morning and switching it up is crazy right now. 
Two Weeks before the LV half :) can't wait.

Week 17

November 7th  Monday, well I am sore as hell.  I have been icing and taking aleive.  A little DMSO also, I am trying it , it seems to be helping with the knee pain. 
anyway, I went to my new PF gym in my town, it is clean and nice, i did the eliptical at 5 for 30 min getting in  3 miles. 
Tuesday 11/8/11  I seem to be more sore in different places and the bruise on my right leg is getting bigger.  I ran 3 miles on the TM... very hard to do since I am so sore and hard to walk stairs.
Wed 11/9/11   I am feeling less sore, and not as sick, the coughing is going away, i hope.   i went to the gym (almost did not go!)  i was able to get in a good weight work out :)  i did the pf 30 min workout then did some good stretching.

The bruse on my right thigh is huge and tender (from the fall i took on Sunday last)


Thursday:  ran 3 miles, not great but did it.

Sunday November 13, 2011  Ran 8.17 miles in 1:34:04  for a little over 11:30 mm... better than last week. I felt good while I was running, I really felt like i could have gone faster and tried to do just that, I seemed to be able to breath good, so I will have to push it more!
 I did ice my knees. they are sore, not hurting, just sore.  I have to find some other way to make them feel better.  I have new sneakers that are good.  I bought good shoes and now I have a arch support in the new shoe.  I am trying that ...  we will see. 


Next week I will be training at night.  Should be interesting.  I thought it was a good idea to give me an idea of how I will be on the Race night.
My Trainer said nothing other than get your miles in.  :) 

Week 16

October 31  Monday - No Run...  Everyone lost electricity from the big storm we had.  it snowed out on Saturday evening and due to the heavy snow and leaves still on the trees we lost a lot of trees.  the devestation has been incredible.  we did not regain full power in our town until friday november 4th, they managed to come out to remove the live wire in our driveway.  they postponed Halloween until the 4th. we were nervous about the kids coming to the house that night.  Well, it is gone now.

my first half (7miles) i felt great, legs were good, knee felt okay ( i wore both knee braces) Hilly run at some points but okay.   at 1 1/2 miles i fell due to a car traveling quite fast toward a stop sigh.  he was not looking my way.  i was running on the left side against traffic and saw him coming fast, so i stepped to my left and rolled my ankle left, but fell to the right, onto the pavement in front of the car.  he did stop and jump out to make sure i was okay, i thought he was going to have a heart attack.  anyway, i scraped my elbow and bruised my right upper leg.   i am okay though.  the second half was mostly controlling myself down hill.  that is tough for me, to actually have a controlled downhill run so i do not become exhausted.  at 12 miles i was tiring and ran for 2 min and walked 20 sec for a bit.  and tried to push myself the last 1/2 mile.   All in all i can and will do it  :)  haha

Week 15

October 24 Monday through Sunday October 30th
I took vacation time so i could work on my parents house.  clean and organize.  now that is for another blog.  I worked hard and was stressed most of the week.  my oldest son ended up in emergency surgery for appenisitis.  he is okay now. :)   
my folks came home two days early and the cold i have been fighting off came back in great furry!  ugh.  i am still coughing some.  so this was a time off week.  no workouts other than housework....

Week 14

The time is starting to fly by now! 
so, i need new sneakers and have not gotten them this week. :(  I will....
Monday Oct 17, 2011:  ran/walked 20 min on the treadmill 1.5 miles.  had a great leg workout  standing calves:  45/12, 90/6, 105/6,  45/24     Leg Extension:  30/12, 45/6, 60/6, 30/24      sitting leg curl  30/12, 50/6, 70/6, 30/24      abductor/out:   30/12, 50/6, 70/6,  40/24    adductor/in   30/12, 60/6, 80/6, 40/24    glut flexor   30/12  yep only one set! 
Tue:   off..... off...much needed!  Sometimes a much needed day off can be more beneficial than a great workout.  and a great workout with a beneficial day off is super duper!  haha.

Wed:  Treadmill, five miles, pushed myself with five min intervals ....  i did have to walk a few times... knee is okay....  need new sneakers!  anyway 5 miles in 53:24  :)

Thursday: no gym, stretching for 20 at home with caletetics at home for 35 min....   abs for ten.

Friday  to the gym... good stretch, 35 min on the treadmill with a goal of getting three miles in under 30, :)  well, I did !!!    3 miles in 29:23 and i tapered the last 5 min to cool down.  I am happy with that for now,  oh, and my knees are kinda sore, not like before, they just feel like they are cold.

Week 13 New motivation

Well, after having a horrible run on Sunday, I really needed to just put it behind me, and i did just that.  I rested on Monday and today, Tuesday, I  ran on the treadmill for my 3 mile scheduled run.  I got to the gym later than I wanted to as Tewksbury had the main road shut down and I had to take a detour.  Once at the gym I did a short 10 minute free weight work out.   A little switch as I usually do this after my run.  I then did a two minute warm up on the Treadmill, getting my first mile in under 10 minutes and forcing myself to get the second mile in under 20 ... just barley.   my heart rate hit 147, which i am happy about.  i have a hard time getting it over 102.  (my resting hr is 48)   Anyway my last mile i managed to get done in over ten minutes.  What an exhilarating run!  I walked for 5 min after and stretched.  I was able to get my 3 mile time to 30:11  :)   I am so very happy with this.  oh, on another note, no knee brace, no pain :)  yay! 

Wed:   To the gym to do 30 min on the elliptical, with a short upper leg work out.  :)   legs feel great!  tummy not so much. :(   ugh....     mind over matter!

Sunday to the gym with a crazy morning... just as i was leaving to run the DD called and needed me to pick up GS so i put off my run.   ran 7 and some on the treadmill... horrible.... horrible... gonna have them.

week 12! wow

Monday- off....   rest day :)
Tuesday:  treadmill 3.25 miles...   ran 3 miles in 32:40  ....   it is raining hard out today!   feeling good! knee feels good.  i am back on track this week with the schedule my trainer / hubby gave me :)  glad of that!

Wed:  took the morning off,,,  four miles tonight. :)   haha... i was a bit tired and not in good spirits this morning... since i need to run some night time /afternoon time runs, I figured i would take advantage.
Well, at lunch time I told my darling husband that i would be running  right after work!  he was surprised. haha... So at 4:00 pm est...  I ran my four miles in 44:34.  I have to admit my time is slowly getting better, but I am still not happy.   This was a tough afternoon race.  Ugh.
I felt good after and iced my knee and took an aleave.  that helped :)  

Thursday:  went to the gym and actually got there the earlist yet! 4:45am!  heavens.  haha.  I have a heard time leaving the house once i am fully awake.  I am thinking of switching gyms.  there is one opening up in my town that is opened 24/7  :)  I can just roll out of bed and go!  that would be much better!   anyway, I did do 20 min on the eliptical (2miles, i did force myself to get in the two miles in the twenty min)  then, squats, stretching, leg workout, upper body. i need to start writing this down...  

Friday:  nothing this morning, I had Rian and I let my DD#2 borrow my car.... walked one mile from the Boys/Girls club to Dad's and he drove me to work.... after i picked up my coffee....  3rd of the day!  oooohhhh my...
I am supposed to run 3 miles today... we will see... :) 
Saturday:  3.1 miles  34 min  felt okay
Sunday:  long run  8.22 miles  2 hours 11 min 43 sec. -  first mile i felt pretty stiff.... i did bring water with me.  so i sipped it during the run....  my lower back hurt while running too... this is not the first time.   (that means new sneakers!)  anyway, the second and third mile my legs and lower back did not seem to warm up, at 4 miles i stopped and stretched... walked and ran the fifth mile, stopping again to do further stretching, ran / walked but in pain with the back.  walked mostly, and ran little during the last 3 miles.  a bad run, but i needed that, i needed to have one bad run to see how much i need to do so i have a great run for the half :) always the optimistic.  ....  
20.47 miles this week :)  includes the eliptical miles, i am okay with that.

Week 11 9/26/11

hello all,
Here it is 10 weeks!  wow, I can not believe ten weeks have gone by, and I am worse than I was ten weeks ago.  Ugh.  I know, my eating sucks, my running sucks..today sucks.   But, on a high note!  ha ha~    I did go to the gym this morning.
at 5 am I was on the elliptic machine for 20 min (resistance at 8)   I burned 242.5 calories and did 2.07 miles.   My heart rate was avg 107 and a high of 139.   I then did the following workout.
10 min stretching,  Dual Pulley Pull down   35 lbs - 25 reps then 45 lbs 20 reps then 65 lbs at 10 reps.   seated row   30lbsx20r...35lbsx20r...40lbsx20r  .   Leg Press   60lbsx20r.... 7dlbsx 25r....   leg extension  75lbs x 10 reps x 3 each...... seated leg curl 45 lbs x 15 reps x 2 each....  times up! 
lol, so i was asked today why i am limping!  I did not know I was limping!  Well, it is time for knew shoes...these heels are killing my knees anyway! 
today is a very stressful day...  feel like i am invisible.... ugh... ;(   Have a good one...back soon

Well, I can only get better from here!!

I only ran 11.2 miles this week.  I need to set a goal for the week!  I need to run 15 miles this week!  total.....  I am considering running in another 5k on sunday.... we will see....  
15 is the majic number!

Tuesday:  3.1 miles. not feeling too good. ;(  knee hurts ....

Wed:  yeah, i may have overdone the workout on Monday..just a little... i iced last night and slept well.  This morning i put on my knee brace and spent an hour on the eliptical.  6 miles ... now that made me feel good.  the brace helped a lot.  thank goodness.  so i have a four mile run in the morning. i will prepare for it tonight.  i may do the treadmill..... 
Thursday:  I ran 3 miles....  34 min... 
Friday off from running, did a workout at home, and stretching.
Saturday off:  i want to be ready for my long run
Sunday :)  7.1 miles,  felt pretty good, i walked twice, once to cross at an intersection, and once to remove my jacket.   i carried a water bottle with me, glad i did, even though it wasn't too hot out and i did not finish it.   I wore my knee brace, so that was good, my knee felt good until the last two miles but it held up.   it felt good!!  :) 

total miles for the week:  13.2 miles for the week!  this does not include the eliptical miles....

Week 10 9/19/11

Well, here it is week 10 ... wow...
Monday:  this morning I managed to keep myself on the elitical for an hour with no week knees!  yay.  I was getting tired toward the end but nothing to worry about.
After a horrible weekend, I am so ready to get back to it. Oh, I was at the gym at 4:45 this morning.
Next week is weigh in, etc....

Tuesday:   5:10 am... DH is soooo sick!  ugh, as I am. :(   coughing ......  anyway, i went to the gym and did 45 min on the treadmill.  2 miles in under 24 min.... walk run for the next mile...then just walk.  
I need to amp it up. but i am sick and i do not want a  relapse.   I did do some painting this afternoon, so i was active.  that is one of my new goals, to stay active for the afternoon until it is time to go to bed.  hope it works....

Wed.....  up late!  no gym...hopefully this afternoon....gotta go get sworn in for my notary....
Went to the Courthouse and was sworn in! yay.   On the way home i grabbed a already made sandwich and one hour later i was so sick.
got home at 3:45 and ran 3.1 miles in 44.40 min.  walked some ran some. felt good after. 

Thursday....   painted ..second coat on dresser.   done with that...   no workout.

Sunday :  william west road race here in billerica.  ran 3.1 in 33:14... not very happy with that.  amp it up

Week 9 of training

Monday I worked out at the gym.  as you can see i am forgetting to write this down as i am being lazy.   Tuesday, Jen's birthday, I managed a four miles on the tm.  well, i did 3 and ran / walked the last mile.

Wed. I did a nice workout and the eliptical for an hour. 
Thursday, i ran 2 miles on the TM.  Thrusday afternoon (9/15)  i left work early as i was soooo sick.   I was having a lot of pressure on my left side of my face. (sinus) 
I stayed out of work Friday and went to the doctors.  she gave me some flonaze and said it was a viral sinus infection. :(  ohhh i was down for the count.  the medicine kicked in and i slept.  Saturday was our towns Yankee Doodle Homecoming.  My Alumni Association had a boot and i was in charge so from 8 am to 4 pm on saturday and 8 am to 2 pm on sunday in the booth.  it wasn't too bad.  DH (darling husband) helped me out with the tent along with my dad....  babysat GS#2 .....  oh and DH took GS#1 out in his rental mustang convertable, hahaha... he was soooo excited...  i had to share that.    Anyway,  as you can see i am caught up.  I know it's getting closer and i am not training well.  Time to get my game on. haha...

WEEK 8

Well, last week sucked.  I managed to get in 2 miles on two different days, then five miles walking. 
oh dear.
Anyway, today i got in 10 min on the bike and a 30 min work out in the planet fitness 30 min workout room.  it was a good work out.... i am still in some pain. ugh.  i have a colonoscopy on Thursday.  I am so excited. hahaha ...  I am all set with my room and plane tickets for december, now i am working on a meet up with my internet running buddies. :)  now that will be fun! 


My colonoscopy was fine.  the stuff they give you to remove as much of your waste as posible is interesting. ha.   I chose not to mix it with anything.  It was salty, but fine.  the not eating anything was hard, but i got through it.  After it was all said and done, I am fine and will not have to go back for another one for ten years :)  yeah.

So that was 9/8/11 (the colonoscopy)  I worked Friday and ended up running on Sunday  I ran three miles and felt okay.

Week 7

Monday - Treadmill run :) whoo hooo.   ran for 30 min on  the treadmill, well I ran/ walked.  my goal was to get in two miles and i did just that but it took me 25 min.  when i felt like my knee hurt (any twinge)  i slowed to a walk.   i tried doing the following on the treadmill  
1st min at 3.2 with 0 incline walk
2nd min at 4.0 with .5 incline jog
3rd min at 4.5 with .5 incline jog
4th min at 5.0 with a .5 incline run
5th min at 5.5 with a .1 incline run
6th min at 3.2 with a .5 incline
7th min at 5.5 with a .0 incline
8th min at 6.0 with a .0 incline run
9th min at 6.2 then dropped to a 3.4 walk
and so on....  i did great the first 8 min doing this but i am taking it easy this week.
my trainer is having me 'run' every other day.  so i will bike and upper body tomorrow.  
my knee is feeling good, a little sore and tight right now.  i will ice and i already took an alieve. 
oh, i had a half peanutbutter sandwich before, about an hour before.
then oatmeal for breakfast.

week 6

Here it is week 6 already!  yesterday *(monday) I did a short workout with stretching. 
Tuesday,  30 min on the bike with 10 min interviles ( 2,3,4) last 3 min up to 5 and 6....  feel good, then some stretching and an upper body work out 2 sets (1/12 1/15) wgts 6lb and 8 lbs.  
I am not limping and the sore muscles on my right side have gone back to normal. :)  the knees are sore but good.  i am putting flexal on them to help.  taking my aleive at night only right now.  totaly off all pain meds though.  i did have a tough weekend coming off them...  but i am good now. ;0) 
now to concentrate on December 4th :) 
Wed. day off.... rode the bike 30 min on Thurs and Friday.  On friday i also did a low wgt, leg workout. :)  felt good.   Sat, sun, off....   lots of work around the house.

week five?

I lost count ha.  anyway, i did fifteen min on the stationary bike this am.  also some upper body work out and abs, all very light and easy.  my knee hurts. my shoulder (rt) hurts, it is very stiff from over compensating.  i have a doctor appt. on wed.  i felt a bit quezzy today.  i am on track though.  149 lbs..... 


Tuesday -  feeling a little better.  thinking i need to slow down a bit.  I did twenty min of excercise.  took my pain med and iced my knee yesterday.  i guess i need to pay more attention to what my body is saying.  i left work early and slept most of the afternoon and went to bed early too.  and the recovery continues :)  
I will prevail.  haha.   I have a doctor appointment tomorrow and will find out more about my knee scope.  i have to go into boston after to get sworn in for my notary.  I wanted DH to go, but he doesn't want to.  oh well....  i will go in by myself. 
I just measured my hips (41.5) and waist (36)  not happy with that.  I had Wheat english muffin with a small bit of butter for breakfast this am.  i need to watch what i am eating.  i will be taking a half day today, and tomorrow off, i just need to rest. 
I have decided not to bowl this year, it makes me sad, i might go back next year, or in the summer, only if i can convince dh to go. :(   I loved getting out. now i have to find something else to do.  Maybe i will take up a sewing class or something.  IDK....  Off to work i go.... 

Thursday -  Well, I saw the doc yesterday, i am healing up pretty good!  I got to see the film of my surgery!  that was so cool.  I also had the doctor show DH the MRI of the Tear.  I do have Arthitis but not so bad.  he (doctor) suggested that i take Aleave 2x a day.... hmmm we will see.  
I stayed home after the doctor's.  the pain i was having in my neck and shoulder seems to have worked its way to my lower right back (all muscle) and hip flexsor.  ugh.  I will get past this.  so, today i start my road back to running.   I do have a plan. today i am off to the gym.  I will finish this later :)   ....
Well, i did 20 min on the stationary bike :)  stretching and arms today.  simple but i do feel good. 

Friday! Totaly different post today. i am hurting! my knee is so sore, and i did not sleep well last night. i have taken my self off the pain meds. i just don't want to do them so i am thinking that i don't feel well due to that. 
easy exersises today... so much not feeling well......  ugh.

Recovery

Today is Thursday, August 11, 2011.  I had a knee arthroscopic surgery to remove a meniscus cartilage tear and clean up.  ha ha.  I had the surgery on Tuesday morning at 7:30.  All went well.  After the surgery the Doctor (Pfiffer)(Sp) spoke with my husband and told him the meniscus tear was the secondary problem. The main problem seems to be arthritis in my knee.  The doctor said he gave me a cortisone shot which will help me along. But in the long run (five ten or even fifteen years) I may need a knee replacement.  DH is not happy about that prospect!  no kidding. 
Well, my recovery has been going very good.  I am not using the crutches as much. not too much pain either.  I have cut back on the pain killers.  I am taking aspirin as directed to prevent any blood clots.  I do get to shower for the first time in three days.  That will happen later on this afternoon. 
I started slowly exercising my legs, and doing an upper body work out.  I need to start slow so I don't relapse.  
I do have a doctor appointment on the 18th, that will give me more information on the arthritis, of which I am sure I have it in other joints as well.   It is amazing how they don't know until they go into a joint with a scope what you actually have.  I have gone in (about 6 years ago) for swelling in my hands, etc. and was told I was lucky not to have arthritis.  Needless to say he missed his opportunity to help me early out.  Anyway, I will move forward with this.  
Good news, I weighed in at 152 at the doctors, I weigh 148 this morning and I am happy about that.  I need to get down to 132 to be a more comfortable runner.   time is on my side!

week 4

Here we are at week 4.   How exciting, I have a orthoscope to remove a minuscus tear in my left knee all set up for tomorrow.   6 am!  well, the surgery is for 7:30.... no food after midnight.  no nothing... ugh.
well, it will be over shortly.  i am not very nervous.  i guess.  anyway i have to set up my training for after my surgery, to recover quickly. :)  more later.

Week 3

Last week seemed to be a bust, sort of , I did work out and I was able to run a total of 7 miles last week. 
I did go to the doctors, i had an xray and MRI.  The MRI showed a torn miniscus ... which is a cartiledge in my knee.   the area it is in (explained by the doctor) is where there is no blood vessels to help it to heal, therefore there would be no healing and it may do further damage down the road.  Well, should i have the "scope" or PT?  I chose to have the scope done and then pt to get through this and back into the running.  i hope my right knee will hold up ....  anyway, i did do 3 miles yesterday (mon aug 2)  and today i decieded to rest it and run tommorow.  i was hoping to set up my doctor apt. today.  we will see.  TTL :)

Thurday, August 4th.  Well, I walked three miles today.  just feeling sorry assed today. lol.  I am going in for a 'scope' on tuesday of next week.  they will remove the minicus tear.

Week 2 day 1

Today is my off day for everything. (rest day)...  knee is a bit sore from yesterday's run.  I was supposed to have an MRI this morning and I totaly forgot about it, but i did reschedule for Wed am.

end of week one

I ran 4 miles today (sunday) with a knee brace, it was ok, for now.  i can feel some stress in my leg still.  monday morning is my mri.  anyway, i ran the 4.9 miles in 45:04   so not great but not bad.  i did some walking and took a water bottle with me. it is hot muggy and although it did rain a bit, it is still clamy...ugh.  haha.  yesterday i lugged bags (17) up a flight of stairs, took them to the salvation army.  moved a bunch of boxes and trash for my dad.  good leg work out. haha...
well all in all this was a good week i managed to make sure i did something physical each day.  now to work on my eating.  I need to tweak it ...

Well, this is not good!  My knee hurt so bad after two miles of my 3.2 mile run I had to walk the last mile. not a happy camper! 42 minutes !  bad. time to make a doctor appt before it gets worse.  :(  
Well I am hoping for a better day ahead.  oh, i did put on some joint stuff before i ran hoping it would feel better.   it feels stiff...

day 1 training

Well, today is the official first day of my half marathon training.  I will be training for 20 weeks to run in a Half Marathon in Las Vegas on Dec 4th.  Of course i do run and work out but I am so out of shape, I am also hoping to drop some of the weight I have managed to gain, this will be a bonus, as I am goning to concentrate on the running first and formost.  I have a 2.5 run today, I am going to run this afternoon or later tonight.  I am a morning runner but all things planned usually don't happen just the way you expect.  I have my granddaughter with me this morning.  Had she brought her sneakers I could have had her come with me!  Well, I am spending the morning with her then off to work.  :) 
I will update later with my time and so on. 
Update:   ran 2.5 miles in 27:14 in the heat of this afternoon!  (5 pm)  man it is hot.  felt a bit of a twinge in the knee, but it is okay now.  i did walk a bit.  not much.   i practiced my "leaning forward and making sure my knee and hip lined up!"   see ya tomorrow.
